Sacred Space - June 2009 Newsletter
Last month was terrific. I attended the Alex Stark, Creating Sacred Space workshop in Boulder, CO. Picture Boulder in May: green, blue skies, endless views of mountains. This trip was also graced with new teaching, inspirational colleagues and grounding energy.
The Sacred Space workshop included training – both inside the classroom and on the mountain - as well as, time for introspection. My teacher, Alex Stark, expressed the importance of remaining in our (internal) center and working/living from that place. He demonstrated this concept through slide after slide that showed churches, buildings and statues from B.C. through to modern architecture that were built around honoring one’s center.
In Feng Shui, an auspicious site is one that has the armchair effect. The armchair creates an “auspicious” space, that honors the center - where energy meanders gently in a way that positively affects one’s life. We either look to see if the armchair is evident in the land surrounding the space, or create it in and around the space. The concept of the armchair connotes a lush, healthy, protected, supportive environment in which life can flourish. Mountains reside behind, with supportive land and vegetation energies on all sides. Learn more about Feng Shui with this book by Eva Wong, an author recommended by Alex Stark.
Another key teaching from Alex Stark is to discover your roots. Know your ancestry, where you are from and what makes you who you are. Learn about where you grew up – what happened on that land that affects you and culture today. Get involved in the community, connect and make a difference. For me, this was a gentle message return to the place that I call home so I can spend quality time with my family and learn more about this environment and how it makes me who I am.
Creating sacred space, aligning an environment with the natural flow of life, learning how the energy of the land creates the blue print for how life and the energy of those that dwell there will be affected are all key factors of the study of Feng Shui. I’ve been a student for almost ten years now and I’m still learning and going further in my practice. Each time I learn, I’m able to share with you.
So, for Feng Shui tips this month – there’s only one: Stay in your center. Attend to the center in yourself, let it reveal itself in your environment by making positive changes in your space to support you, and shine your light to the world. Go deep within for all answers, for one’s heart is the real center of everything. We are all connected and we are all one – one heart, one soul. Nature is beautiful and constantly expressing itself in and through each one of us, every animal, blade of grass, ray of sunshine, drop of rain and in the ground that we so lovingly refer to as mother earth. Take care of the earth, yourself and be as one.
